On July 1st, the university's branch campus in Guayaquil held a special celebration for the winners of the 2017 sports competition that was held in Quito, where all three branch campuses competed. The celebration was attended by the university's vice president in Guayaquil, Andres Bayolo; representatives from the students federation from Quito and Guayaquil. 

The ceremony was held in the university's sports complex in Guayaquil, acknowledgement awards were given to the trainers for their work with students. "The university supports and acknowledges the effort done by students and trainers during all the competiton", said Victor Emilio Estrada, director of sports at UPS.   

For having won the overall championship, the branch campus in Guayaquil will hold the 2019 championship. "Holding the next championship will be a challenge for Guayaquil. The infrastructure is really good, we will have to work hard to plan everything right so things happen correctly", said the vice president of UPS's branch campus in Guayaquil. 

The sports will be: men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, chess, swimming, table tennis, volleyball. There will be new sports like weight lifting, triathlon, bike riding and others. "We invite all students to join the sports groups in the university, they have worked hard to achieve their goals, they have shown that with perseverance it is possible to fulfill objectives", said Bayolo.
