The university's pedagogy major at UPS-Cuenca and the ASU academic group organized the talk on "The importance of interculturality at UPS". Professors, students and overall public interested in this topic attended the talk.

The speakers were: Juan Cordero Iñiguez, who has broad experience in education and politics in Ecuador and is currently the director of the Museum of Aboriginal Cultures; Jose Acero, one of the first indigenous professionals of Quilloac; and Professor Diana Avila, who was there on behalf of UPS-Quito Vice President José Juncosa.

Juan Cordero spoke about the importance of knowing Ecuadorian history, where we can find the reasons of interculturality. "If we don't look at history, how can we support the fact that there is an enourmous amount of differences and that these differences don't make us better nor worse, they just make us different. We have our identity which makes others know us.

Culture is something substantial in humans, it is the individual or collective answer to their needs" said Dr. Cordero. He told people that is it is important to know about our culture and assess ourselves personally, especially in the university. We are all the same, we are mestizos who have inherited great cultural wealth to live our interculturality as best as we can.

The aim was to strengthen policies that favor inclusive education, especially for those who have historically been excluded, such as indigenous students from kichwa communities in Cañar and Quilloac. These students are part of the university and study different majors, but their sole presence does mean inclusion. There must be a relationship of coexistence throughout the university community.
