Students from our branch campus in Guayaquil took part in a conference on recycling in order to create awareness on the impact of waste on the ecosystem and the importance of caring for the areas surrounding the university.

Andrea Gonzalez, environmental activist and an expert on waste management, explained how to manage non - hazardous waste and stressed the importance of creating awareness on how to take care of the mangroves near the university.

"Raising awareness in the community about the importance of proper management of non-hazardous waste and its final disposal through recycling is essential for the restoration of ecosystems and is the main method against the effects of climate change," she said.

Carmen Palacios, director of the Environmental Engineering program, said that this event helped students’ professional training to become environmental engineers in aspects such as planning, management and preparation of campaigns to prevent mistreatment of the environment. "The conference seeks that our students have the ability to promote environmental management plans aimed at the proper management of non-hazardous waste in compliance with environmental regulations, the conservation and protection of ecosystems such as the mangrove," said Palacios
