The Robotics Club in our branch campus in Guayaquil took part in the 2nd edition of the robotics competition: “Steel Tournament” which took place in the province of Riobamba. The members of the club that took part in the competition are majoring in electronics and automation engineering, mechatronics, electricity and business administration; the club is led by professors Byron Lima and Diego Freire.

The tournament was based on robot wars; Gabriel Nieto, student of electronics and automation, who won first place in the categories “Batalla ½ lb and Soccer said “it was a great experience, we created a prototype using 3D printing, electronic parts from several engines and a metal base. For me, the entire process was very exciting.”

Byron Lima, coordinator of the robotics club, explained that it is a great opportunity for students to apply what they have learned. “Students were able to test their designs, make improvements, come up with new ideas and develop their problem solving skills”.

Oscar Alvarez, from mechatronics, said “the members of the robotics club support each other, we helped each other charge batteries, exchange ideas and solve problems; it all brought us together as a team”.
