More than eight thousand students visited the university's branch campus in Cuenca for its 2017 Expo from the 20th to the 22nd of April. Several projects such as Go-karts, Fire Bots, and other activities like the presentation of high school bands and the biggest hot dog in Cuenca were part of this year's expo.

The university's 18 undergraduate programs in Cuenca presented several projects created by senior year students who displayed their creativity and applied all the knowledge they have acquired in engineering, life sciences, business and economic sciences, social sciences and human behavior. Attendees also visited the laboratories and conducted some practical activities.
UPS president Javier Herran Gomez inaugurated the expo on April 20th; he thanked officials from other educational institutions, companies, students and professors for attending. He spoke about the importance of research processes and the results that are visible in each one of the projects presented in the Expo.

The acting vice president of the university's branch campus in Cuenca, Lorena Cañizares, awarded Herlinda Toral, Ciudad de Cuenca and Tecnico Salesiano High Schools a special recognition for their work. Students from these high schools had the best grade point averages in UPS during the last semester.

One of the most attractive projects was an electric vehicle designed and built entirely by automotive engineering students. This car will compete in Silverstone, England in the Formula SAE in July.

The veterinary medicine major's project included the presentation of breeding grounds for guinea pigs and llamas. They were also in charge of making the biggest hot dog in Cuenca, which measured 163 meters and was then cut into 1200 hot dogs for all the attendees to enjoy.

The electronic and automation, mechatronics, mechanics and telecommunications majors organized a battle of robots contest (Fire Bots), where students applied all their knowledge and skills.

The communication major installed a television set where students transmitted live all the activities that were taking place in the expo. The physical education major presented the chips, created by students, that will be used in athletic competitions. The computing major presented several robots, such as the NAO and others that were built by students.

The mechanics major presented several projects and took attendees to their laboratories, so did the environmental and biotechnology majors, for students to conduct some practical activities.  The university's UNESCO chairs program, the language institute and the salesian groups were also in the expo.

14 high schools from Loja, Azogues and Cuenca participated in the high school bands competition which was held in the university coliseum.

The expo was possible thanks to the joint work of about 500 people, students, professors and administrative staff who were in charge of logistics, the stands, activities, and so on. UPS presented its academic and technological development along with community involvement projects, cultural activities and research.
