UPS attended the first meeting on Salesian Communication

From the 16th to the 18th of November, the Salesian Inspectorate in Ecuador held the first Salesian Meeting on Communication" in the university's branch in Cuenca. The aim of this event was to see the communicative expressions within the salesian works and houses, contribute to education and strengthen salesian identity through synergy.

UPS president Javier Herran gave the first conference and spoke about communication for development as an strategic process planned to foster social changes. He explained that communication is a factor for decision making, that communication is a proposal where thinking improves living standards.

The methodology of the event presented the development of communication laboratories where participants acquired new theoretical and practical tools in: radio, video, writing, social networks, institutional communication, graphic design and photography.

The organizers reiterated what was said by Fr. Timothy Ploch, Councilor for the Inter American Region, who is on an extraordinary visit to Ecuador: "Communication is an essential part of the Salesian mission." The Salesian Office of Communication, Audiovisuales Don Bosco, Don Bosco Publishing House, the Pastoral Publications Center and the Salesian Vocational Fund were the promoters of the event.

At the same time the 1st Salesian Communication Conference was being held, the Meeting of IT Professionals also took place. The event, organized with the aim of providing training, thanks to the support of the National Salesian Education Council (CONESA), was attended by 18 representatives of Salesian houses and works in the country.

Several experts in IT such as UPS professors Jairo Sacoto and Rodolfo Bojorque took part in event. Professor Sacoto spoke about "Cloud Computing and virtualization of mobile networks" and professor Bojorque spoke about "Information security management systems"

The talks in the conference were about several topics such as: Digital communication as an integral element of the educational community; benefits of School Agreement and its future in the cloud, telecommunications and internet services; technological innovation, communication and free software which was presented by Father Marcelo Chavez, President of CONESA.

•    Graphic design and photography: Javier Coronel from Colegio Técnico Salesiano and Franklin Ramírez from Centro Gráfico Salesiano.
 
The organizers were pleased with the participation of communicators and IT professionals who presented proposals and initiatives to strengthen salesian communication.
