UPS is ranked fifth in number of books published among Ecuadorian universities between 2004 – 2013, with 150 books according to the Ecuadorian "Book Organization".  You can find this information in the article ""La evaluación y acreditación de la educación superior ecuatoriana y la producción editorial" in UNIVERSITAS magazine.

Luis Alvarez, PhD, the university's general editor and Jose Juncosa, professor and director of the Abya Yala-UPS Publishing House, presented the features of publications in public and private in Ecuador in the context of the assessment of quality in higher education.

The study was conducted based on two types of materials: statistics of published books, books per areas of study and the experience in accreditation of research at UPS and peer revision. 
For these two authors publishing books is an essential element in the quality of higher education because every university can disseminate and share knowledge.
