The communication undergraduate program in our branch campus in Cuenca presented the book titled "YouTube and communication in the XXI century, published by Centro Internacional de Estudios Superiores de Comunicación para America Latina (CIESPAL). The book is the result of contributions from the university's GAMELAB Research Group and the Communication, Education and Environment Research Group. It contains information of 21 researchers from UPS (Cuenca and Quito), Universidad Tecnica Particular de Loja and Universidad Nacional de Loja. 

"During 2020, the year of the pandemic caused by COVID-19, YouTube celebrates its first fifteen years as the second social web platform with the most active users in the world, around 80% of Internet users, according to Andrea De Santis, coordinator of the book, along with Professor Angel Torres-Toukumidis.

The book explores and deepens the analysis of the platform from different areas of Communication and with academic and professional perspectives. Participatory interculturality, the construction of audiovisual identity, the moral dilemma that is generated in relation to its consumption, the strategic use of YouTube for the communication of science, political communication and video - marketing. The book ends with an important contribution from the UPS Audiovisual Laboratory with a chapter that contains the general parameters for editing videos on YouTube.

Ángel Medardo Silva, co-author of the book said "I am very happy for the opportunity and the result. I am sure that it is a book that will break paradigms in communication, allowing our students from Ecuador and the Spanish-speaking world to elucidate the impact of YouTube on our society more clearly."

The book is available on the internet, open access, in the collection: Periodística y Nuevas Culturas Informativas de la CIESPAL, ranked 13th in the world in the field of communication according to SPI ranking.
