UPS professor Lorena Campo presented two papers in Social Medicine Institute in Universidade do Estado de Río de Janeiro, Brazil, during the event titled "Rudolf Virchow Seminari Series on Global Health", which was held on May 12.

The papers are titled "Suicidio como proceso de ritualización" and "Diferencias de género en ideación y tentativa suicida". The first paper is part of her thesis on anthropology and the second is on her thesis in psychology, where the study is being conducted in Quito's Psychiatric Hospital "Sagrado Corazón".

Professor Campo presented her papers along with renowned experts such as Dr. Joao Dal Poz (UFJF, UNIMONTE, author of the book "Crónica de una muerte anunciada. Suicidio entre los sorowaha") and Dr. Carlos Eduardo Freire Estellita-Lins (ICIT).  Professor Campo was invited by professor Marcio Ferreira Da Silva, director of the anthropology department.

Professor Campo's papers focus on the taboo of suicide and Ecuadorians, especially in Quito ritualize suicide. "As every ritual, it is important to register the differences between men and women involved in the phenomenon of suicide and cultural trends", she said.

These studies are possible thanks to an interdisciplinary vision, proposed by professor Campo, between health, psychology, psychiatry and cultural anthropology. Her work follows the university's research lines led by the psychosocial research group and the social movement research group.
