Professors Nelson Jara, René Sánchez and Arturo Peralta successfully ended their PhD studies in control engineering, telecommunications and energy and attended the graduation ceremony at Universidad Pontificia Bolovariana in Medellin, Colombia.

Their studies lasted for about four years; they travelled back and forth to attend class, conduct research and present their thesis.

Professor Nelson Jara presented his thesis titled "The impact of energy policies in the manufacturing industry of domestic refrigerators in Latin America: case of Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador". The research focuses on controlling national and international production of domestic refrigerators based on minimum standards of energy performance.

Professor Sanchez presented his research: "Diagnosis of failures in gearboxes based on the fusion of vibration, current and acoustic emission data", which was awarded the Summa Cum Laude award, the highest honor for a postgraduate thesis. The research evaluates monitoring techniques to improve accuracy in the diagnosis of failures in industrial machines.

Professor Peralta presented the research titled "Planning model for the scalability and deployment of the MAN & WAN communications infrastructure in Smart Grid based on FiWi Networks using multistage stochastic programming", it received the Magna Cum Laude recognition. This research proposes a new planning model for the scalability and deployment of communications infrastructure (considering Fiber-Wireless Hybrid Networks), which support the services provided by Intelligent Networks, Smart Cities and the Internet of Things, the model seeks to return the maximum benefit to communications operators or utility companies
