Automotive engineering professors from our branch campus in Guayaquil presented the project “Sustainable Mobility” at the Illingworth Naval Academy; there were workshops and talks on the use of hybrid and electric cars in order to preserve the environment through sustainable mobility.

The project encourages high school students to contribute to reducing pollution and creating a less polluted world.

Professor Marcos Millan presented several types of marine, aquatic, submarine, air and land vehicles to show that the use of these means of transport affect our respiratory system and the planet's environment in the long term. "With our means of transportation we can raise awareness in reducing the consumption of toxic substances that are very notorious today, for example, by using bicycles more frequently", said Millán.

Edison Orellana, coordinator at the Illingworth Naval Academy, said it is important to provide students with as much information as possible so they can choose what to study at the university. “We have had good academic ties with Universidad Politecnica Salesiana for many years now. We have held several academic activities that benefit our students” he said.

“They present innovative topics, their explanation is very clear and easy to understand so we are interested in what they have to say”, said Lissette Polo, a student at the naval academy. Another student, Andrew Villon, said the university encourages them to reduce pollution; “I liked the presentation on bicycles because I´m a bike user”.

“The aim of our program is to become a benchmark in automotive technological and industrial development. We want our students to become professionals who care for the environment through sustainable means of transport”, said Renato Fierro, director of the automotive engineering undergraduate program in Guayaquil
