Since June 20th, our branch campus in Quito has turned into an area of peace and humanitarian aid for indigenous communities that have arrived to Quito for the indigenous - led national strike; the university prioritizes assistance for women, children and the elderly.

“Our university is committed to helping society, we stress that the university is of humanistic and Christian nature. It is at the service of common good and it encourages peaceful dialogue in order to solve any conflicts and avoid violence”, stated UPS president Juan Cardenas.

There are 200 volunteers (professors, students, administrative staff) that have organized to help people day and night, there is also medical attention being provided with the support of the Red Cross, Universidad UTE, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, Universidad Central del Ecuador and Fundación Medial CAZBA.

The pastoral department created an area for children where students majoring in psychology, early education and other volunteer students are in charge. The university has provided assistance for over 700 emergencies and it has fed over 5000 people.

Juan Cardenas, UPS president, stated that the university provides medical assistance, shelter and food for the most vulnerable groups of society that are now in Quito. “Academia is a place where you create knowledge, but it also seeks peace”.
