The business administration school from Sao Paulo and the Administração de Empresas (RAE) Journal published Pablo Perez's paper titled "Evaluación de la distribución espacial de plantas industriales mediante un índice de desempeño".  Pablo Perez is a professor in the school of industrial engineering and a member of the Socio Economic and Business Research Group (Grupo de Investigación Socio-económica y Empresarial GISEE) in the university's branch in Guayaquil.

The paper presents a tool called Layout Performance Index (IDL for its acronym in Spanish) which evaluates and compares the current work of spatial distribution of industrial plants. The layout is one of the most important decisions for a company's operations strategy.

"As a result, IDL analyzes the layout and considers the most unfavorable situation and the best spatial distribution possible. This helps identify improvement opportunities", said professor Perez.

He thinks this tool will contribute to bridging the gap of the lack of knowledge in this area and strengthen education for industrial engineering students. "This research could encourage our students to do other similar work that can be directly applied to industrial companies ", he said.

RAE journal is included in the Social Sciences Citation Index and the Journal Citation Reports- Thomson Reuters. It is indexed to Scopus, SciELO, Redalyc, EBSCO, DOAJ, Gale Cengage Learning, ProQuest, JSTOR, Cabell's, HAPI, IBS, Latindex, Ullrichs and Google Scholar.
