The university's Energy Research Group (GIE) presented four papers during the Power Electronics and Power Quality Applications-PEPQA seminar that was held in Bogotá, Colombia from the 2nd to the 4th of June.

This seminar provides students, professors and professionals in this industry to get involved in the field of power electronics and power quality in the region.

The seminar was organized by "IEEE IAS Colombia Chapter" along with Universidad de los Andes SB IAS Chapter, with the support of "IEEE Colombia Section and "IEE Industry Applications Society". The papers presented at the event will be indexed to SCOPUS through the IEEE Explorer platform.

The main topics presented in the seminar were:

1.     Power electronic converters
2.    Speed control systems
3.    Power electronics in transmission and distribution
4.    Power quality analysis
5.    Power quality design
6.    Modeling, simulation and training in power electronics / power quality

UPS professors Flavio Quizphi and Jose Aller, members of the GIE group, presented the following papers:

1.    "Predictive Control Strategy for DFIG Wind Turbines with Maximum Power Point Tracking Using Multilevel Converters" written by: José Sayritupac, Eduardo Albánez, Johnny Rengifo, José Aller and José Restrepo.

2.    "Comparison of the Parameter Estimation for the Induction Machine Dynamic Model using Instantaneous Measurements at Standstill and during Start-up" written by: José M. Aller, José A. Restrepo, Julio C. Viola, Pedro R. Barbecho, Johnny Rengifo and Flavio A. Quizhpi.

3.    "Fractional order PI controller applied to the induction machine current loop" written by: Miguel Abril, José Restrepo, Julio Viola and José M. Aller.

4.    "Two-Phase Active Power Filter Direct Current Control with Capacitor Voltages Estimation and Balance" written by: Marco Fajardo, Julio Viola, José Restrepo, Flavio Quizhpi and José Aller.

Around 4000 people participated in the three day seminar with practical tutorials, papers and posters; this showed how professionals in the industry can engage with academia.
