UPS student is part of the Ecuadorian rugby team

Edisson Mendez, industrial engineering student, rugby player for the UPS rugby team and the coordinator of the UPS women's soccer team, was called to join the Ecuadorian rugby team that will play in the XVI South American Competition from the 8th to the 14 of November in Lima, Peru.

The Ecuadorian team Los Piqueros will play its first match against Los Tucanes from Colombia, then they will face Orquideas from Venezuela and will finally play against Turnis from Colombia.

The Ecuadorian team traveled to Lima on Saturday, November 7th, but the team had already got together on November 3rd at the Rio Verde High Performance Center to start training. Their coach is Luis Zamora from Venezuela, and despite being only 32 years old, he has lots of experience in this sport.

Edisson Mendez, the only player from Cuenca on the team, said that it will be an honor to wear the Ecuadorian jersey again and that he hopes to do well during this competition.

The other players on the team are: Jair Benavidez, Gustavo Salvador, Vicente Centeno, Marco Troya, Juan Gálvez, José de la Gazca, Luis Hinostroza, Jonathan Auria, Guillermo Orrico, Luis Cordero, Said López, Luigui Villacís, Iván Macías, Bryan Romero, Edison Avellaneda, John Cacpata, Edwin Lastra, Haccer Benavides, Santiago Galvez, Leonardo Cabezas, Andrés Solano, Jonathan Arroyo, Manolo Silva, Kevin Lliguicota.
