The university's branch in Cuenca held three special programs to welcome 1500 new students to the September 2016 – February 2017 semester. 

The programs were held on October 12th and were attended by UPS president Javier Herran who welcomed everyone to the university and spoke about family effort, work, optimization of resources, caring for the university's facilities, not wasting time and studying hard.

The university's vice president in Cuenca, Cesar Vasquez, was pleased with the number of students who decided to study at UPS. He asked students to join and take part in the university's cultural, academic, pastoral and sports activities.

Santiago Median, President of the students federation (FEUPS) in Cuenca presented the activities the federation has carried out and asked everyone to participate. "We all make up the federation", he said. 

The performances in the program were carried out by the university's choir, theater group, modern dance, traditional music, traditional dance and modern music groups.
