Why study a university degree

The 23rd transmission of the program "Somos UPS Tu voz, mi voz, nuestra voz" was attended by UPS president Juan Cardenas; the academic vice president Angela Flores, and the vice president of our branch campus in Guayaquil, Raul Alvarez. They were there to talk about the importance of having a university degree and about the opportunities UPS students have.

"Studying a university degree helps us grow as people, going to the university means acquiring lots of knowledge which allows us to reach our goals, create life projects, criticize the current context and most importantly, it allows us to serve society", said UPS president Juan Cardenas.

The challenge of universities today is to educate professionals to face the challenges of the future, in this regard, Juan Cardenas said: "the mission of the entire education system, at all levels, is to awaken the creative dimension of students because that gives them autonomy, we will not be fully prepared for the crises of the future, so the university must interrelate with society, understand the environment, the social, cultural, political and economic reality, in order to generate educational projects that solve new scenarios and improve learning processes of our students".

Studying a university degree not only improves your job perspective but also allows you to develop personally, said Angela Flores during the interview. "The university requires effort and good habits, which facilitates long study days, it makes students more secure in the face of new challenges, allows them to develop their autonomous learning and prepare for life", sated Flores.

UPS is characterized by the way it relates with others, we have a horizontal relationship style, close, with a family spirit that allows us to interact in a friendly way and provide support to our students to overcome challenges. Through different salesian groups they focus on developing soft skills, useful at the business level.

The growth of the university's campus in Guayaquil is the mainstay of UPS, both in infrastructure, state-of-the-art technology and highly qualified staff. "There are Currently 7,600 students enrolled, with 100% teachers with master's degrees and a large number of teacher with doctoral degrees, but what makes the difference in university is our empathy with our students, our Salesian charism", said Álvarez.
