The basic education undergraduate program in our branch campus in Guayaquil, which is part of the project “Barrio Cuba reads, writes and communicates”, held several workshops to encourage people to read and write more.

The workshops were carried out by 11 students who are taking the subject titled Didactics of Language Difficulties with the aim of developing linguistic skills in more than forty children.

To get young people and children interested in literature, students used 7 titles of universal children's and youth literature, 3 by Ecuadorian authors and 4 of universal literature.

Students created resources and activities to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, based on selected literature books. This experience will allow future Basic Education graduates to put their pedagogical, psychological and didactic knowledge into practice and be active in the transformation of other people’s realities.

For Carla Sabando, a student, “theory is only part of the educational project, the implementation of a reading club in Barrio Cuba allowed us to put all the knowledge acquired into practice. We were able to design and adapt teaching strategies, as well as diagnose children’s needs and work in a personalized way. This gave us a real vision of what being a teacher entails.”
