"Café - Pasillo", an event to promote the Ecuadorian pasillo musical genre
The culture groups in our branch campus in Quito held an event titled “Café Pasillo” aimed at rescuing and promoting the Ecuadorian pasillo musical genre.
The traditional music group is directed by professor Alexis Castelo and made up by Holger Ortega, Renato Cumbal and Steve Acosta. The group was accompanied by Gerson Eguiguren, notable Ecuadorian musician, and Neicer Quinatoa, UPS alumni. They performed the following pasillo songs: Sendas distintas, Alegrías, Pasional, Despedida, Tú y yo, Amor - dolor, Ángel de luz, Sombras and El aguacate
Juan Mullo, musician, writer and composer, was also part of this event. He spoke about the history of pasillo music in Ecuador and presented interesting historical passages that marked this genre. The choir, directed by Karol Caicedo; the contemporary dance group, by Johanna Franco, and Ecuadorian dance, by Jorge Sánchez, also performed.
