UPS dance groups took part in International Festivals in Peru

The "Pumapungo" traditional dance and traditional music group from Universidad Politecnica Salesiana's branch in Cuenca, which is directed by Juan Carlos Culquicondor and Oswaldo Morocho, respectively, traveled to Cusco-Peru to take part in several international festivals from the 14th to the 22nd of June.

The first province they visited was Espinar, where they showed people Ecuador's culture. They were welcomed by children, teenagers and officials from the city's schools.

The First Festival in which they participated was at the "K'namarca" Archaeological Complex, an exceptional historical and cultural context where the Ecuadorian delegation and groups from Chile, Paraguay, Colombia were welcomed by the host country Peru which presented its variety of dances and traditional music.

 Then the members of the UPS groups went to the province of Sichuan to participate in the International Festival in the "Raqchi" Complex. In a spectacular setting, more than 10,000 people enjoyed the different choreographies and received several awards from the organizers and local authorities.

In the same province, members of cultural groups, also shared their art with other educational institutions that also involved groups of invited countries Chile, Paraguay, Colombia.

The cultural tour concluded with the participation in the First International Festival "Pueblos Hermanos", held in the Pumacahua Sicuani coliseum. This time, the UPS groups participated by performing Ecuadorian Sierra and Costa regions choreographies. Twenty-eight talented musicians and dancers left everything on stage and were recognized as the best international delegation.

 Blas Garzón Vera, Ph.D., director of Communication and Culture department in Cuenca said that all the effort of many hours of work and practice was rewarded in this international tour by having won in several festivals. He was very thankful with UPS officials, especially Cesar Vasquez as well as the "Ayllu" Peruvian Cultural Association for the invitation and hospitality received during the International Festivals.
