On September 13th, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (INAMHI, for its acronym in Spanish) presented the project titled "Weather forecast of precipitation and temperature for Ecuador, under different climate change scenarios".  This project had the support of the Ministry of the Environment, Universidad Politecnica Salesiana (UPS), Universidad de Cuenca, the National Network of Research and Ecuadorian Education (CEDIA for its acronym in Spanish) and the United Nations Program for Development (PNUD for its acronym in Spanish).

Maria Victoria Chiriboga, assistant secretary of Climatic Change; Jose Olmedo  executive director of INAMHI and Jose Juncosa, vice president of the university's branch in Quito, as well as representatives from research institutes, public and private organizations and professors such as Sheila Serrano, UPS, attended the event.

Jose Olmedo spoke about the challenge of continuing the technical and research processes for the use and identification of the tools needed to forecast the weather in public and private institutions along with academia in order to find actions that will reduce environmental impacts. Maria Chiriboga spoke about the results of this research which represent technical data that the country needs to comply with international agreements as well as for a national need.

Jose Juncosa spoke about the role of academia in this type of research and said "University is not the lighthouse of societies, we must overcome the vision placed in the university as the hope of possible transformations. The role of the university is learning. I invite you to work together with all members of society. Climate change is going through public policies, by society, they are global processes that go beyond the university, scientists and technology", he said.

UPS is the sponsor of the Third National Communication on Climate Change and collaborated in the third phase of research, which consisted of obtaining atmospheric models.

Guillermo Amaranta of INAHMI socialized the climate projections from 2011 to 2100 on temperature, precipitation and seasonal. With respect to the average temperature, they predict an increase between 0.6 ° C to 2 ° C for 2100. In terms of precipitation, he said that there will be an increase of 1 to 10% for the mainland of Ecuador. "The projections should not be treated as unique and static because they are changing and involve more elements that reduce uncertainties," he said.
