UPS students from Cuenca who are majoring in electronic engineering took part in the Second PES (Power & Energy Society) IEEE Congress which took place in Kuala Lumur, Malasia. Cristina Bustamante Cacao and Bruno Mirabá Valdiviezo are members of the IEEE-PES-UPS student chapter which was founded in Cuenca one year ago. This group is guided by Ricardo Medina. In April 2016, the IEEE-PES-UPS was acknowledged as the best PES chapter in America and the 4th in the world.

The PES Congress is an activity that gathers all the voluntary students from the "Power and Energy Society" in the world in order to improve their technical abilities, grow their professional network and exchange success stories. During this Congress, the aim was to present the Power and Energy Society to students from different universities around the world and encourage them to get involved in student PES.

There were also a number of seminars and workshops for participants. Organizers created a network that will keep people updated and informed about the advances of electrical engineering. This will enable people to learn about activities being carried out by other PES chapters in the world.
